Katrina Relief Project for Mobile Alabama

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina & Rita hit the gulf coast, Habitat for Humanity US put together a program for replacing houses damaged by the hurricane. Habitat for Humanity Indian Wells Valley started a replacement house for Mobile, Alabama. With the assistance of Home Depot and the community, Habitat laid out a house, framed it, took it apart and put it into a sea crate. Additional building materials such as wallboard, tape and mudding material, and tools were added.

Maersk transported it at no cost to Mobile Alabama, the affiliate with which HFHIWV partnered. Once in Mobile, it was errected by volunteers on a pad placed by the Mobile affiliate. The whole project was completed in two days, September 22 - 23, 2006 in the Home Depot Parking lot.
